Dr. Heather Jackson-Peña, MOT, OTR/L, BCP, ETS

Dr. Heather Jackson-Peña is the owner and director of Young & Well and she is a practicing occupational therapist (OT) for 15 years. She provides evaluation, intervention, consultation and education at the outpatient office in Rockville, Maryland. She also provides the same services in partnership with special education advocates and attorneys, and private and public charter schools in Washington, DC and Maryland.

Heather's passions are using nature as a setting for children, both with and without a disability or diagnosis, to support their natural development and creativity; parent-child relationships as a method of developmental support for children and; supporting families in reducing screen time as a family unit to increase purposeful life activities in place of gained time from addressing screen addiction.

In addition to her private practice, she has previously served as an adjunct faculty member at Philadelphia University until their merger with Thomas Jefferson University.

Heather received her Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) degree in 2012 from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and a Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) in 2005, Bachelor of Science in Health Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in 2004 from Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. She is Nationally Board for Certified by the National Board for Occupational Therapy (OTR) and is licensed (L) to practice in both Maryland and the District of Columbia. She is a certified Employment Training Specialist (ETS) and a certified Handwriting Without Tears Handwriting Specialist for pre-k to 5th grade. Heather has been accepted to present several courses at the national and state level on leadership, pediatrics, high school transition, and school-based practice.

In September of 2020, Heather was granted Board Certification in Pediatrics (BCP) by the American Occupational Therapy Association, an achievement that less than one percent of occupational therapists achieve nationally.

Spending time with her partner of 17 years, children, family and friends, taking her dog on trail walks, running, drinking good coffee, reading both research and fiction, and being outside are a few ways she likes to occupy her time.
